Chisinau
As a state Moldova was formed in 1359. Nowadays Moldova is the East-European country with a continental climate. The mild climate and fertile soils turned Moldova into an orchard. Formerly ruled by Romania, Moldova became part of the Soviet Union at the close of World War II. Although independent from the USSR since 1991. Chisinau, the capital of Moldova is a green city on the banks of the Bac (Byk) River. Bombs in WWII destroyed nearly two-thirds of Chisinau's old buildings, and it's obviously a city on the remake. It still has a wealth of stately old buildings and onion-domed cathedrals, but mixed in with these are the stark, Gulag-grey boxy buildings from the Stalinist era, offset by a number of funky bars and cafes sprouting up around the city. The main attractions of Moldova include wine tours, cathedrals, art, historical sites and bucolic settings. The country will appeal to flexible, open-minded travelers who have experience traveling in Eastern Europe and want to see more.
